Bob Weinstock

Weinstock loved jazz, so he borrowed some money from his family and started a record company, "Prestige", and started recruiting the jazz artists he loved. He was only 20 years old. The artists? John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, and more. He encouraged the musicians to record without rehearsing first to get a more "Live" feeling. Over 23 years Weinstock made over 1,000 recordings. He sold his company in 1972 and retired to Florida. He died January 14 at a Boca Raton hospice at 77.
