Edwin John Shoemaker

Shoemaker designed the first La-Z-Boy reclining chair in 1928, using a sheet of plywood and a yard stick. The company sells more than $1 billion worth of the chairs each year. He died March 15 in Sun City, Ariz. He was 90.
