John Alvin

Growing up, Alvin loved movies. After training at the Art Center College of Design, he combined his two passions to become one of the preeminent artists of movie advertising posters. His break came when Mel Brooks hired him to do the poster for Blazing Saddles (1974, shown at right). Over the next 34 years, he produced posters for more than 135 films, including Young Frankenstein, Blade Runner, E.T. -- The Extra-Terrestrial, Victor/Victoria, Cocoon, and the Star Wars films. He died February 6 at 59.
